Pnut Heathcote June 2008 – August 6, 2023
In July 2008, I had gone to my veterinary clinic at the time with one of my cats. Having a lot of cats and taking them to the vet for the smallest ailment, everyone at the clinic knew me and knew that I loved and cared for my babies. The previous week, someone had brought in a kitten who had been attacked by a dog. The kitten was only 6 – 7 weeks old and the Good Samaritan who brought her in didn’t own her, she’d just found her and couldn’t take on a kitten. The vet techs told me I needed to adopt her so I did! She still required treatment/observation so I would take her home the following week. She has been the most loving, sassy, fearless cat from the very beginning. She wanted to be in the middle of everything and was the peacekeeper with the other cats. She was my shadow and constant companion for all the 15 years I was blessed to have her. She had run of the house and deck, slept with me every night, had an annoying habit of licking my face and hair while I was trying to sleep, greeted everyone who came to visit and demanded – and got – preferential treatment where food was concerned: she loved Purina Pro Hydracare and baby food. She saw me through the loss of my mom and sister, a divorce and breast cancer. Nothing I did for her could match what she did for me. I know she had a good run. Fifteen is a pretty good age for a cat. But while I take solace in a long life well-lived, I will just miss her company and friendship. Mommy loves you, Pnuckle Uckle. Until we meet again.
