Katie Anderson/Truett, matriarch and face of the City of Cayce House of Cats, passed of natural causes, peacefully, at home, on June 4, 2022. She was 17 years old.
A youthful Katie started her life in Blythewood, SC. One morning, at approximately 4 months of age, she found herself atop the transmission of a pickup truck – headed toward the Department of Revenue (DOR) in downtown Columbia. The driver, quite unaware there was a hitchhiker, reached their destination and left the truck in the DOR parking garage to begin the work day. Around noon, Katie’s meows could be heard echoing throughout the garage. After a couple of hours, she was ultimately found and rescued with nothing more than a burned upper lip – an upper lip that gave her a bit of a “Clint Eastwood” sneer for the rest of her life. After a brief vet examination, she was decreed healthy and immediately joined the Cayce House of Cats.
Katie had been to the veterinarian twice more in her life – once to be spayed and again for a dental procedure which resulted in removal of all her teeth. This, however, did not stop her from eating whatever she wanted. She never met a bowl of food she didn’t like. In fact, the lack of teeth probably contributed to her longevity. She was never sick – though she did have nasal discharge issues (commonly referred to as “Katie spooge”) for a good portion of her life.
Katie was a quiet girl – but never let her rowdy housemates get the better of her. She would stare them down with her “Eastwood” look, then walk away. She would never fail to be in the area if something interesting was happening. Equivalent to 84 human years when she passed, she lived her long life a happy and healthy cat.
A special thank you goes out to her housemates Josie, Freda, and Thelma – who graciously allowed Katie to share their rooms during her last few weeks.
Katie – we are lucky beyond words to have you in our lives for 17 years. Papa Stoney and Mama Valerie love you so very much and will miss cleaning up all the “Katie spooge”.
Enjoy your journey across the Bridge. We will see you soon, sweet girl…
